Daniel O鈥橠ea, adjunct professor of vocal music, has had an accomplished career to date, from multiple degrees to a large slate of performances.
He can now add Grammy Winning Artist to that list.
O鈥橠ea is a member of the tenor section of The Crossing, a choral group under Conductor Donald Nally.聽 The choir鈥檚 album, Zealot Canticles: A Musical Plea for Tolerance, took home the Grammy for Best Choral Performance. O鈥橠ea has been a member of the Philadelphia-based group since 2010.
Lansing McLoskey’s聽Zealot Canticles, is an oratorio for clarinet, string quartet and 24-voice choir. It is based on the poetry, speeches, and other writings of Nobel prize-winning Nigerian writer and human rights advocate Wole Soyinka.
This is the second nomination for The Crossing, which was nominated in 2017 for the recording of Thomas Lloyd鈥檚 Bonhoeffer.
O鈥橠ea has been teaching applied voice lessons at Loras since 2015.聽 He completed聽his Doctor of Musical Arts in Voice at the University of Wisconsin-Madison where he received the聽Collins Fellowship. He received his Artist Diploma in Opera from the University of Cincinnati’s College-Conservatory of Music (CCM), Masters of Music in Voice from CCM and Bachelor’s of Music in Vocal Performance聽from Westminster Choir College. He was an Apprentice Artist with Des Moines Metro Opera and聽Cedar Rapids Opera and is an alumnus of the Aspen Opera Theater Center, Brevard Music Center and聽the Chautauqua Institute.
He has performed with Madison Choral Project, Middleton Players聽Theater, Madison Bach Musicians, Present Music Milwaukee, the Token Creek Music Festival and聽others. Regionally he has worked with the Chicago Lyric Opera Chorus, Chicago Bach Project, Grant聽Park Symphony Chorus, Cincinnati Symphony Orchestra, Chicago Symphony Orchestra, and the聽Rockford Symphony Orchestra and Peninsula Music Festival.
